“library”

Below is an example of the thesis-induced clutter that has been littering the Edwards basement for at least a couple months. DSCN9910I count more than forty books stacked every which way (some opened), plus a candy wrapper, an empty cup of Small World coffee, an empty Snapple jar, lots of loose sheets of paper, a tube of lotion hidden behind the computer (not visible in this picture), plus a very, very dirty computer screen (see all the fingerprints?).

This particular carrel has looked like this (though the number of books may have decreased) since the beginning of second semester–and maybe even since first semester finals.

That’s more than nine weeks!

Finally, it seems, the clutter is getting on someone’s nerves–and not just the nerves of those who live in Edwards and have been banished from their building’s cluster:

Alas, it is that time of year again — midterms. If you’re not procrastinating at one of tonight’s great performances, you’re probably studying. And for that, Princeton has no shortage of spaces — libraries, residential college libraries, lounges… you name it. When I get stuck studying all day, I like to change it up a bit and find different study spaces every few hours. By at least breaking up the environmental monotomy, I give my brain the illusion that I’m not doing the same thing all day. And my latest favorite study space is the renovated Julian Street Library in Wilcox.

Renovated over the summer, I just discovered this library’s new look a couple weeks ago (as a senior from Rocky, who now lives in Spelman, I don’t go to Wilson much). Whether you want to work (or nap) on a couch or at a table, this place has you covered. And with the blueberry blue walls and couches, it’s hard to get too depressed about those midterms…

What’s your favorite study space? Let us know!

So it’s Thursday night and for those of us spending all night with our papers/problem sets instead of going out, demand for study spaces is high. You know the deal. We can all share Firestone, but only until 11:45. Then there’s Frist or Lewis, but only until 2:00. There are only so many places with comfy seats, good lighting and easy caffeine access. Our choices narrow. Wu and Whitman get crowded. Tensions rise and as Friday morning deadlines draw closer, we all get a little aggressive …

Example? Check out the territoriality at J-Street Library tonight:

Yeah. Back off.

Yeah. Back off.

Princeton kids are nice, we promise! I mean, sometimes you’ve just got to do what you’ve got to do.

To all those pulling all-nighters right now, GODSPEED. Remember there’s still coffee at Studio ’34 until 3:30 a.m., and then there’s always the Wa.

Now get back to work.

Thanks to Jeffrey Chen ’13 for the picture.
