Movin’ on Out: A sign-off from UPC
Saturday, 22 May 2010
by Will Saborio
If you’re wondering where that vague scent of trash is coming from, or why there are so many large people carrying heavy things around campus, you might want to snap out of your post-exam stupor and pack your stuff up: it’s move-out day. Everyone’s leaving! (Unless you have Reunions housing, in which case Angela Hodgeman

We just don’t do commencement like we used to
Saturday, 15 May 2010
by Miriam Geronimus
We know that there’s still a week of finals, but since the year is almost over, we thought we’d share a silent video of Princeton commencement ca. 1928. Some of it you’ll recognize — like the hand motions to Old Nassau or the P-rade. But apparently there are some traditions we’ve lost in the past

I Went To The Reality TV Casting Session So You Didn’t Have To
Sunday, 09 May 2010
by David Walter
And waited, waited, waited for two hours yesterday to have my chance in front of the producers of this prospective show (if you remember from my previous post, the team is shooting a pilot first). I brought work, though, so it was fine. I waited in an upstairs lounge at the Nassau Inn. While sitting

It’s Saturday night – Do you know where your Dean’s Date is?
Saturday, 08 May 2010
by Will Saborio
You know the question. You might even fear the question. But, sooner or later, you have to face the question. “How’s your Dean’s Date?” Yes, at the end of every semester, these four words are tossed around – as a conversation starter, as an awkward silence filler, but generally just as an awful reminder –
In which we issue a correction.

UPDATE: After some discussion, we decided that our judgments were rather more unsophisticated and flippantly worded than we think desirable. For example: We should probably make it clear that IvyGate doesn’t hate Princeton. And we don’t hate IvyGate. And BLOG WARS!!! are, like, totally lame. I used to really like IvyGate. Now, I won’t go

How Facebook Can Save the Dinky
Saturday, 17 April 2010
by Miriam Geronimus
Since learning in March that the Dinky may be replaced by a bus, University students and Borough residents have expressed both support and opposition. The latest from the nay-sayers is a “Save the Princeton Dinky” Facebook page. In only 9 days, 825 people have already joined, including students, community members, and even pre-frosh (“Class of

IN PRINT: Haitian Ambassador stresses need for “New Haiti”
Thursday, 08 April 2010
by Will Saborio
While earthquakes have been rattling cities across the Western hemisphere in the past few months, the most devastating to date remains the Haitian quake of January 5. Haitian Ambassador Raymond Joseph came to speak to students and faculty in Dodds Auditorium this past Tuesday, and there he emphasized plans for a “new Haiti.” His outline

Traveling to New York just got a little more expensive
Saturday, 03 April 2010
by Miriam Geronimus
Starting May 1, Princeton students may be using a little more cash when they head into the city for the weekend or take the train home on breaks. Having campaigned on a promise of tax cuts, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has announced funding cuts to New Jersey Transit in order to balance the state

Ready, Set, Trivia!

by Angela Wu
If you can’t stand to type another word of your JP or thesis, fear no more. We’ve scoured the Internet for ways for you to procrastinate and, as this is Princeton, it’s trivia! Completely random trivia! No, like really, really random! Ready, go! When was each active eating club established? Who are famous Princeton graduates?

Paint [the Oscars] Black…and Orange…
Thursday, 04 March 2010
by Julia Bumke
The Oscars are upon us, Tigers! I know you all would like nothing better than to waste all your waking hours on the NYTimes Carpetbagger blog (for the uninitiated, it’s the Times’s Awards-Season blog, and is frankly the best thing since sliced bread. Despite the fact that sliced bread has never seemed particularly awesome, but

Lady Tigers Really, Really Good at Basketball
Monday, 22 February 2010
by Spencer Gaffney
Well, after all the excitement around the Princeton men’s basketball team possibly going undefeated in the Ivy League, we lost to Cornell and Brown in a span of three short games. There are still a few games left in the season, but Princeton has been all but eliminated from winning the Ivy League title. But

Frisbee days of Princeton yore
Saturday, 20 February 2010
by Miriam Geronimus
Ever wonder how the frisbee got its start? Right here at Princeton! That’s right, the hippie sport(?) began as the privileged past time of Ivy League elites, especially Princetonians, in the spring of 1957. An article about the fad even appeared in the New York Times on August 11, 1957, written by Gay Talese. Called
