A scrap of news that seemed to slip through the cracks during our summer coverage: apparently a well-known Princeton alumnus, four-star general and current Director of the CIA David Petraeus, made some casual remarks about running for the position of president of Princeton. When asked about his political aspirations in an interview with The Telegraph

If you are one of the poor phantoms haunting this ghost campus right now, craving some marginally-Princeton-related excitement, this might be the fix you need. We’ve got our mainstays– Whitman’s gubernatorial race, Bradley’s World Cup squad — but this was also a week of broken ankles, bloody noses, and fainting spells. Oh, and heinous refereeing.

IN PRINT: Gen. Petraeus to be baccalaureate speaker

Gen. David Petraeus, commander of the U.S. Central Command, will deliver the baccalaureate address to Princeton University seniors, at 2 p.m. May 31 in the University Chapel. The general’s selection follows that of CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric, who was announced earlier this year as the 2009 speaker for Class Day, a June 1
