The Presidential Debate According to Freshmen

Not quite satisfied with Harvey Rosen‘s or Politico‘s analysis of last night’s debate? Who better to ask than Princeton’s own budding politicians–the freshmen class council candidates?

Did you watch the presidential debate? No? Aren’t you a politician–what’s your excuse?
No – because I was busy preparing things for my own campaign! —Brian T. Chen

What’s your favorite moment of the debate?
[Seeing] Obama’s sassy side when he claimed, “I had five seconds before you interrupted me.” —Priya Krishnan

Romney: And congratulations to you, Mr. President, on your anniversary. I’m sure this was the most romantic place you could imagine, here – here with me. —Gloria Kantungire

My favorite moment of the debate was when the candidates ignored the requests and pleas of Jim Lehrer. Basically, I liked the entire thing. —Brian J. Geiger

What’s your favorite Election 2012 meme?

My favorite “belief” in the election is definitely the fact that Mitt Romney’s full first name is Mittens. —Ben Dobkin

—Brian J. Geiger

Biggest lesson you’ve learned from this election that you’ll incorporate in your own campaign?
Work the celebrity donors. —Brian J. Geiger

If you could pick anyone to have a debate with, who would it be and why?
Mewtwo. He/it seems really intelligent (I mean, my mind would be read) and I want to see how long I last before I hurt myself in my own confusion. —Brian T. Chen

Who would you pick to moderate that debate? (Cause we all know Jim Lehrer got owned tonight.)
Chuck Norris. No one would mess with his questions. —Brian T. Chen

A Princetonian. Seeing as how successful our honor code is at preventing students from going over-time on exams, perhaps a gentle reminder about abiding by the rules from Princeton students or faculty would have done the trick. —Rishika Dewan

If Princeton were to implement spending cuts, what would you cut first and why? (If you say University Press Club…)
Princeton University Branded Water- I understand that this is local spring water, but I’m sure we don’t need it branded. Besides, we already have water fountains everywhere, which are convenient as well! —Gloria Kantungire

Speaking of presidential candidates, who’s your pick for Shirley Tilghman’s successor?
Kanye West – he would do what is best for the University without caring what others thought. Plus, imagine the Blackbox parties…. —Molly R. Stoneman

What’s your favorite Sesame Street character?
My favorite Sesame Street character is Ernie, because he is orange. But I guess Big Bird is OK, for people who went to Harvard (for grad school). —Ben Dobkin

Mr. Snuffleupagus. I think that’s the biggest word I knew how to pronounce at age 4. —Molly R. Stoneman
