Polis is the first openly gay <i>man</i> to be elected to Congress as a <i>freshman</i>. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) was the first out freshman member, but of course she's female, and Barney Frank (D-MA) and I think one or two other members who are no longer in the House (not sure of who they are exactly) came out after they were elected.
